Muscular Assessment

Muscular Assessment in Northcote

Muscle strength keeps your body active and strong enough to endure work, sports and daily activities and hobbies without discomfort. When muscles are working well together, your body feels more stable, strong, and less prone to strain or injury.

Through appropriate assessment and exercise recommendations, you can gain a better understanding of how your body is functioning and identify factors that may be contributing to muscle weakness, imbalance or strain.

At Northcote Health & Wellness, Dr Chris Milios takes a thorough approach as a muscle strength chiropractor, assessing how your muscles function together to support movement and physical performance.

What is a Muscle Assessment?

A muscle assessment evaluates the condition of your muscles to identify areas of weakness, imbalance, tension or fatigue. These factors may be restricting your ability to carry out normal daily activities.

Instead of focusing on a single area of discomfort, Dr Chris looks at how your whole body moves together to find the root cause of the issue.

In some cases more detailed muscle strength test or manual muscle test may be used to better understand how specific muscles are performing under pressure.

How This May Help

A muscle assessment may help to:

  • Identify areas of muscle imbalance
  • Assess muscle strength and control
  • Help identify factors that may be contributing to tension or discomfort
  • Inform strategies that may support recovery following periods of inactivity or injury
  • Assist in understanding factors that may influence endurance during daily or physical activities

Information gathered through a muscle assessment can help guide a personalised approach to care based on your individual needs, goals and physical function.

What This Assessment May Involve

Manual Muscle Testing (MMT) is a simple, non-invasive assessment used to check how well muscles work. It highlights problems that may not be obvious through posture or movement alone.

A muscle strength test looks at how well your muscles generate force during specific movements. When certain muscles are weaker than others, this may indicate an imbalance that could be associated with altered movement patterns or discomfort.

Muscle activation focuses on whether your muscles are switching on when they should. It’s not just about strength but also about how well your muscles are activating and working together.

Dr Chris will assess muscle areas with stiffness, tenderness, or reduced mobility and use targeted techniques. This assessment may provide information about areas of stiffness, tenderness or reduced mobility that can be considered when developing a management plan.

Your posture and movement patterns are also reviewed to understand how your body holds itself throughout the day. This can reveal patterns of muscle imbalance that may be causing your ongoing discomfort.

Why Choose Us?

Our team is dedicated to your health and happiness. We believe it’s our duty as care providers, not just healers or therapists that can provide you with the best results possible so long-term pain relief becomes part of everyday life again. We offer many services under one roof including massage therapy which treats more than muscle tension but also helps clients release emotional stress when necessary through different techniques.

The first visit includes a review about your health history which will take into account any aches/pains or other concerns you may have.

A detailed Examination is then performed. This will include various tests and procedures which will examine many things but mainly the function of your:

  • Nervous system
  • Muscular system

This will include a multitude of Neurological tests which will determine how well your nervous system is functioning. We will look at things like:

  • Alignment of the body, spine and the extremities.
  • Movement of the joints, muscles and spinal column.
  • Reflexes of the nervous system.

This will include testing the relevant muscles of the body to check how well they are functioning. This will look at things like muscle:

  • Strength
  • Weakness
  • Proper movement
  • Tightness/ Restriction

Once treatment commences, the Chiropractor will then perform a series of necessary adjustments or corrections to various areas of the body. These adjustments are both safe and gentle low force techniques to bring the body back to proper alignment and joint function. These adjustments are not only performed on the spine but any other joint that is relevant to the treatment ie: shoulders, ankles, wrists etc.

While the Chiropractor’s main job is correction of the spine we also address the relevant dysfunctioning muscles along with the treatment. This will include various soft tissue techniques, stretching and strengthening of these muscles to treat the body as whole.

Once treatment is concluded then the Chiropractor will advise the proper mobility and strengthening exercises to be taken home to enhance the treatment and promote the proper healing of the tissues. This will also include a discussion for future treatments when necessary.

After all the relevant information is collected we will then determine if we are the right people to help you. If we are then we will commence treatment.
